The rare audio recording of Lokmanya Tilak’s voice which was last week played at Kesari Wada will now be available for the general public, once work on the recording is complete. Said to be a rare audio recording, it was a part of the personal collection of Seth Lakhmichand Narang’s family.

The audio recording was played last week, 97 years after it was recorded. Tilak’s voice was captured by Narang at a concert held in Pune on September 21, 1915, to celebrate Ganesh festival — which was started by Tilak himself. Narang, who had specially come for the concert from Karachi, had carried US-made Capehart recording machine to record the concert of famous classical singers then.

In the recording, Tilak is asking the gathering at Kesari Wada to maintain decorum. An an accidental recording, it is slated to be the only one of Lokmanya Tilak.
